Clarksdale, Mississippi

Clarksdale, Mississippi, is the county seat of Coahoma County and one of the most famous communities in the Mississippi Delta. Founded in the 19th century, the city grew into an important center for cotton, agriculture, and commerce and later became internationally known for its connection to Delta blues music. Legendary musicians including Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, and Sam Cooke have ties to the Clarksdale area, while the famous Crossroads of Highways 61 and 49 has become a symbol of blues folklore. Today, Clarksdale celebrates that heritage through live music, festivals, the Delta Blues Museum, and a downtown that remains deeply connected to the culture of the Mississippi Delta.
