A&P

The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, widely known as A&P, was founded in New York City in 1859. Initially starting as a mail-order tea and coffee merchant, it revolutionized retail by introducing the modern "economy store" concept that eliminated home delivery and credit to offer significantly lower prices. By the 1930s, it had grown into the largest retailer in the world and the first true retail empire, operating nearly 16,000 grocery store locations across the United States. Following decades of shifting consumer preferences, intense competition, and heavy corporate debt, the iconic chain filed for bankruptcy and officially ceased all supermarket operations in 2015. This piece of apparel is part of our Grocery Stores Collection.
