Flip Side

Flip Side was a popular independent record store chain in the Chicago area, remembered by generations of Illinois music fans during the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. With locations in suburban shopping centers, Flip Side offered a wide selection of vinyl records, 8-track tapes, cassettes, CDs, and music-related merchandise. The stores became favorite destinations for discovering new artists, picking up the latest albums, and browsing music long before digital downloads and streaming changed the industry. Although Flip Side eventually disappeared from the retail landscape, its name remains a nostalgic reminder of Chicago-area record shopping and the independent music stores that helped shape local music culture.
