S&H Green Stamps

S&H Green Stamps were introduced by the Sperry & Hutchinson Company in 1896 and became one of America’s most popular customer loyalty programs during the mid-20th century. Shoppers received the stamps with purchases at participating supermarkets, gas stations, and other businesses, then pasted them into books that could be redeemed for household goods, toys, appliances, and other merchandise. At their peak in the 1960s and 1970s, S&H Green Stamps were distributed by thousands of retailers and became a familiar part of everyday American shopping. Their popularity declined as retailers developed other promotional programs, although the Green Stamps name remains a powerful symbol of mid-century consumer culture. This shirt is part of our Department & Discount Stores Collection.
