Burger Chef was founded in Indianapolis, Indiana, in 1954 and grew into one of America’s largest fast-food hamburger chains during the 1960s and 1970s. The company became known for innovations such as the Funmeal, an early children’s meal that predated McDonald’s Happy Meal, and for its signature Big Shef and Super Shef burgers. At its peak, Burger Chef operated more than 1,000 locations across the United States, making it a major competitor to McDonald’s. After years of declining sales and ownership changes, the remaining Burger Chef restaurants were converted to Hardee’s or closed, and the chain disappeared in the 1990s. This piece of apparel is part of our Restaurant Chains Collection.
