The Houston Colt .45s began play in 1962 as an expansion team in Major League Baseball's National League. They replaced the AAA Houston Buffaloes who moved to Oklahoma City and became the 89ers, a farm team of the Houston Colt .45s. The team changed their name to the Houston Astros in 1965 when they moved into the Astrodome.
