Mervyn's California
Mervyn's was a department store chain founded by Mervin G. Morris. The first Mervyn's store opened in San Lorenzo, California, a community between the cities of Hayward and San Leandro, in 1949. By the mid 70s, Mervyn's had locations across California. Expansion continued in the 80s with Mervyn's opening stores outside of California. In 2006, Mervyn's had 189 stores in 10 states, but by 2008 the company entered bankruptcy and closed all operations on January 1, 2009.
The logo on this t-shirt is the final version of Mervyn's original logo that was used from 1995 until early 2001 while the stores were rebranded as Mervyn's California in an effort to identify with its West Coast roots.
