Record Bar was one of America's most popular record store chains, originating in Durham, North Carolina, in the late 1940s and expanding under the ownership of Harry and Bertha Bergman beginning in 1960. A familiar fixture in shopping malls throughout the Southeast and beyond during the 1970s and 1980s, Record Bar offered an extensive selection of vinyl records, 8-track tapes, cassette tapes, CDs, and music-related merchandise. At its peak, the chain operated approximately 180 stores, becoming a favorite destination for music lovers searching for the latest releases and discovering new artists. Following its sale in 1989, Record Bar was eventually absorbed into Blockbuster Music in 1993, ending an era for a beloved chain that helped define the golden age of record shopping. This piece of apparel is part of our Music Stores Collection.
