1812 Overture Records & Tapes

1812 Overture Records & Tapes was a favorite destination for Wisconsin music fans during the 1970s, beginning with a small store at 1433 E. Brady Street in Milwaukee in March 1970. Founded by Alan Dulberger, 1812 quickly became part of Milwaukee’s thriving music scene, expanding to several locations around the city and eventually to Madison while selling millions of records and tapes. The stores were closely connected to the local concert scene, with Dulberger also promoting performances by artists ranging from Bruce Springsteen to Frank Zappa. Financial difficulties brought the original 1812 Overture chain to an end around 1980, but it remains fondly remembered by Wisconsin record collectors and music fans. This piece of apparel is part of our Music Stores Collection.
