Clinton, Mississippi, is a historic community in Hinds County located just west of Jackson. Originally known as Mount Salus, the town was renamed Clinton in 1828 and grew into an important center for education, commerce, and community life in central Mississippi. Clinton is home to Mississippi College, founded in 1826 and the oldest institution of higher learning in the state.
