Doggie Diner

Doggie Diner was a beloved Bay Area fast-food chain that began in Oakland in 1948, eventually growing to about 30 locations throughout San Francisco, Oakland, and surrounding communities. Locals remember it for hot dogs, hamburgers, fries and pastrami sandwiches, but especially for the enormous grinning dachshund heads wearing chef hats that stood outside many locations. During the 1960s and 1970s, those giant Doggie heads became a familiar part of the Bay Area landscape before the last restaurant closed in 1986.
