Fort Morgan
American Retro Apparel

Fort Morgan is a historic coastal fortification located at Mobile Point, at the entrance to Mobile Bay in Baldwin County, Alabama. Constructed between 1819 and 1834, the massive masonry fort was designed to defend the strategically important shipping channels leading into Mobile Bay. Across the entrance to the bay on Dauphin Island stands Fort Gaines, another historic coastal fortification that worked in conjunction with Fort Morgan to protect Mobile Bay. During the Civil War, both forts played important roles in the Battle of Mobile Bay on August 5, 1864, when Union Admiral David Farragut famously declared, “Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!” Fort Morgan later served during the Spanish-American War and both World Wars, and today it is preserved as Fort Morgan State Historic Site, offering visitors an opportunity to explore nearly two centuries of American military history.
