Hot Coffee, Mississippi

Hot Coffee, Mississippi, is a small rural community in Covington County with one of the most memorable place names in the state. Local tradition says the community took its name from a roadside store where travelers stopped for hot coffee made with spring water and sweetened with molasses. Located along Mississippi Highway 532 between Collins and Mount Olive, Hot Coffee has never been a large town but has long been a recognizable part of the surrounding countryside. Its unusual name and rural character have made it a favorite example of Mississippi’s many colorful and distinctive communities.
