Jitney Jungle
American Retro Apparel

Jitney Jungle was founded in Jackson, Mississippi, on April 19, 1919, by cousins William Bonner McCarty, Judson Holman, and William Holman. The grocery chain pioneered a self-service, cash-and-carry model that allowed shoppers to select their own items rather than relying on a store clerk. At its peak, the business expanded to nearly 200 locations across six Southern states. The historic chain ultimately came to an end in 2000, when its remaining stores were acquired by Winn-Dixie. This shirt is part of our Grocery Stores Collection.
