Metrocenter Mall officially opened on March 1, 1978, at the intersection of Highway 80 and Interstate 220 in Jackson, instantly becoming Mississippi’s premier shopping destination. Spanning a massive 1.25 million square feet, it was celebrated as the largest enclosed mall in the state and featured a soaring central court lined with palm trees, a multi-screen General Cinema theater, and room for over 100 specialized stores.
