Rapids on the Reservoir

For generations of Jackson-area kids, Rapids on the Reservoir was one of the places that defined summertime in the Jackson Metro Area. The water park opened in 1984 on Spillway Road, on the Rankin County side of the Ross Barnett Reservoir, and featured water slides, a wave pool, and other attractions; after nearby Waterland USA closed, some of its slides were moved to Rapids. More than two million people visited Rapids during its run, making it a familiar destination for family outings, church groups, and summer days with friends. The park closed for good after the 2007 season, and the property was sold for redevelopment in 2008, ending more than two decades of summer memories on the Reservoir.
