ShowBiz Pizza

For kids growing up in the 1980s, ShowBiz Pizza Place was as much an entertainment destination as a pizza restaurant, combining pizza, arcade games, birthday parties, and the unforgettable Rock-afire Explosion animatronic band. The first location opened in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1980, and the chain quickly expanded to more than 200 restaurants across the country. ShowBiz eventually acquired the parent company of rival Chuck E. Cheese’s Pizza Time Theatre, and beginning in 1990, ShowBiz locations were gradually converted to the Chuck E. Cheese concept. By 1992, the conversion was essentially complete, bringing an end to the ShowBiz Pizza name but leaving strong memories for a generation of children who grew up with Billy Bob, Fatz, Mitzi and the rest of the Rock-afire Explosion.
