Summers Hotel
American Retro Apparel

The Summers Hotel opened in 1944 at 619 West Pearl Street in Jackson, Mississippi and became an important lodging destination for African American travelers during the segregation era. The hotel welcomed prominent black musicians, entertainers, and civil rights figures traveling through Mississippi and became a significant gathering place for Jackson’s African American community. Beneath the hotel, the legendary Subway Lounge developed into an important center for blues and R&B music, hosting musicians and late-night performances for decades. The Summers Hotel was demolished in 2004, but its history and the legacy of the Subway Lounge remain an important part of Jackson’s cultural and musical heritage. This shirt is part of our Mississippi Hotels & Motels Collection.
