WAPE, The Big Ape, was a 50,000-watt Top 40 radio station from 1958 to 1981 in Jacksonville, Florida. But it didn’t stop there. The Big Ape roamed way up to the amusement parks of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and down to the boardwalk at Daytona Beach.
